EFIS 35, April 2016 : Legal Aid

You must login to download the contents of this EFIS.

Pursuant to the information which we supplied to you on EFIS No.15 in January, the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) intends to make the submission of all new certificated cases compulsory via the Legal Aid Agency's Client Cost Management System (CCMS) on and after 1st April.

Please refer to the website below which contains more detailed information about CCMS, including two weeks transitional arrangements, a contingency process to be followed if users encounter problems with CCMS and the types of work that will be exempt from CCMS:-

http://www.gov.uk/government/news/civil-news-ccms-mandatory-from-1-april-for-all-civil-cases

Oyez understands that the LAA intends to maintain forms on their website for use in exceptional or emergency cases which includes forms for legal aid applications.

In addition, any cases which began by using paper forms before 1st April will continue on paper forms and any forms which are required for the billing and management of these proceedings will remain in general use until the conclusion of these cases on and after 1st April.

Subscribers to this range may also find it helpful to refer to the variety of training and support materials for CCMS which can be viewed by following the link to the website below:-

http://ccmstraining.justice.gov.uk/enhancingccms/claim-upload

Apart from viewing the LAA's information about CCMS above, Oyez recommends that civil legal aid practitioners should contact their local contract manager for more detailed information if this person has not already contacted their firm to explain how CCMS will operate after 1st April.

Form AF1(SP) has received a minor database amendment and can be used immediately.
